Instructions for Resetting Your Password Using a USB Flash Drive

 

To reset your password, you’ll need to boot your computer from a USB flash drive via the BIOS or UEFI settings. The process may vary slightly depending on your computer’s manufacturer and model. Follow these general steps:

 

Step 1: Boot from the USB Flash Drive

1. Insert the USB flash drive into an available USB port on your computer.

2. Turn on your computer or restart it if it’s already on.

3. As the computer starts, press the key that opens the boot menu. This key varies by manufacturer and model, but it’s often F2, F10, Esc, or Delete.

Tip: If unsure which key to press, refer to your computer’s manual or search online (e.g., “How to boot from USB on HP Pavilion 15”).

4. In the BIOS/UEFI setup menu, locate the Boot Options or Boot Order section.

5. Use the arrow keys to select your USB drive and move it to the top of the boot priority list.

6. Save your changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI setup.

 

Your computer will now boot from the USB flash drive.

 

Step 2: Resetting the Password

1. Once the password reset program launches, you’ll be prompted to select one of the recovery modes: SAM, AD, DCC, or UTILS.

2. To reset a login password, choose “SAM” and click Next. The program will automatically search for the SAM and System registry files.

3. Click Next again to view a list of user accounts.

4. Select the account for which you want to reset the password and click Next.

5. In the new window, either:

Enter a new password, or

Click the “RESET/CHANGE” button to clear the existing password.
