He challenged the power of big business trusts. He also worked to conserve the nation's forests and natural resources. Teddy believed in strong leadership at home and was assertive in foreign affairs. T.R. began construction of the Panama Canal and helped end the Russo-Japanese War. He established the United States as a world leader and a world power.
