The high limit switch is used to detect whether the water temperature exceeds the safe level (150 ?) ° F) When this happens, open the heat exchanger outlet immediately.
You heater will indicate when it is time to replace the High Limit Switch when the ?SERVICE? LED is displayed. It also may be time to replace your High Limit Switch if all 3 lights on the back of the control board are on and one or both of the switches shows an open circuit (given proper water flow through the heater). See the troubleshooting section of the Service Manual.
