It is used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. This dedicated hood is designed perfectly to suit the specific focal length of the compatible lens. The non-glare matte finish on the inside further prevents or limits lens flare. This dedicated hood allows you to use 55mm filter and lens cap on the lens. Since the end of the lens is extended, you will also get benefit of extra protection from accidental impact or scratching. Besides, the bayonet mount also works in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.
