It is a container for melting and refining metal liquids as well as for heating and reacting solid-liquid substances, and it is the foundation for ensuring the smooth progress of chemical reactions. When melting strong alkaline substances such as NaOH, iron crucibles are used. However, due to problems such as easy rusting and oxidation, they are not widely used, and inactive metal crucibles are still the main choice. Nickel crucible rack: The nickel crucible rack is made of high-temperature resistant nickel wire and has the advantages of not cracking or deforming at high temperatures. Note: The heating temperature of the iron crucible should not exceed 380 degrees Celsius, as iron is prone to oxidation. The melting temperature of a nickel crucible should not exceed 700°C, as nickel is prone to oxidation at high temperatures.

✨Precautions A. Nickel crucible: 1. The melting point of nickel is 1455 degrees Celsius. Nickel has strong resistance to alkali and erosion, so nickel crucibles are often used to melt ferroalloys, slag, clay, refractory materials, etc. 2. The melting temperature of the sample in a nickel crucible should not exceed 700 degrees Celsius, as at high temperatures, it is prone to oxidation. Nickel crucibles cannot be used for the calcination of precipitates 3. Nickel crucibles are suitable for NAOH, NazO ₂, NazCO ₃, and NAHCO ₃. It is not suitable for melting samples with alkaline solvents containing KNO3, nor for melting samples with acidic solvents such as KHS04 or NAHS04, K2S207 or NA2S207, or alkaline sulfide solvents containing sulfur. 4. Molten metal salts such as Al, ZN, PB, SN, and HG can all make nickel crucibles brittle, and borax cannot melt in nickel crucibles either. 5. Nickel crucibles often contain trace amounts of chromium. Attention should be paid when using them. 6. New nickel crucibles should be incinerated at 700 degrees Celsius for several minutes before use to remove oil stains and form an oxide film on their surface, thereby extending their service life. The treated crucibles should be dark green or grayish black. From now on, before each use, boil and wash with water. If necessary, add a few drops of hydrochloric acid and boil for a short while, then wash with distilled water and dry for use. 7. Alkaline fluxes can be melted in nickel crucibles, and their melting temperature generally does not exceed 700 degrees Celsius. Sodium oxide can also be melted in a nickel crucible, but the temperature should be below 500°C and the time should be short; otherwise, severe erosion will occur, increasing the content of nickel salts brought into the solution and becoming impurities in the determination. 8. Acidic solvents and solvents containing sulfides cannot be used in nickel crucibles. When melting sulfur-containing compounds, it should be carried out in an oxidizing environment with an excess of sodium peroxide. Molten metal salts of aluminium, zinc, tin, lead, etc. can make nickel crucibles brittle. Compounds of silver, mercury, vanadium and borax, etc. cannot be calcined in nickel crucibles either. Nickel is readily soluble in acid, so acid should not be used when leaching the molten block. B. Iron crucible: 1. The melting point of iron is 1300 degrees Celsius. 2. The heating temperature should not exceed 380 degrees Celsius as it is prone to oxidation at high temperatures. 3. Before using the iron crucible, it should undergo passivation treatment. That is, first wash it with dilute HCL, then wipe it clean with fine sandpaper, then wash it with hot water, then soak it in a mixed solution of 5% H2SO4 and 1% HNO3 for several minutes, then wash it with water, dry it, and finally incinerate it in a muffle furnace at 300 -400 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes. 4. The usage rules of iron crucibles are the same as those of nickel crucibles. As iron crucibles are inexpensive, they are more suitable when the presence of iron does not affect the analysis work. Cold dilute HCL can be used to clean iron crucibles.
