Attractive young Parisian Ariana Chavasse is a future cellist studying at the conservatory. She lives with her father, Claude, a private detective who makes a living tracking down unfaithful wives and husbands. His clients have long been interested in the aging American playboy Frank Flannegan.
One of the clients, having learned about the intrigue of Flannegan with his wife, decides to shoot the offender. He sneaks into the Ritz Hotel, where Flannegan meets with his passions, but instead of his wife, he finds Ariana in the millionaire's room. Overhearing a conversation in her father's house, she decided to save the rake's life and warn him of the impending murder...
A year later, fate again brings Ariana and Frank together in Paris. To spur his jealousy, Ariana puts on a femme fatale mask, telling him about her many romances with successful and rich men. In fact, he is the first person she fell in love with. Frank is frustrated by his ignorance: Ariana won't even tell him her name.
In order to find out the whole truth about the girl he was interested in, Frank seeks the services of the first private detective he comes across. It turns out to be her father, Claude Chavasse...
